Cabano to Edmundson

We are really looking forward to cycling today as everyone has said this section of the Petit Temis trail is the most scenic.  Through this section the trail hugs the shores of Lake Temiscouata and the Madawaska river.

A beautiful river

The day is not looking very promising weather-wise.  In the morning, it is overcast, cool and very windy.  We decide to wait as the forecast predicts that by late morning, the rain will be over and the temperatures will at least get into the mid-teens.

As predicted, the rain stops and the temperature rises.  The only thing that doesn’t improve is the strong winds which are reported to at times gust to over 50 km an hour.  From the campsite the trail is less than a couple of km away and once we are on the trail we are somewhat protected from the wind.

The trail is much flatter than the section we rode yesterday and as promised, the scenery is beautiful.  For most of the ride, we are cycling through a tunnel of trees and at time through a passage between rock that was blasted out in the late 1880’s for the Petit Temis Train.  Over the course of the day, we cross several trestle bridges while enjoying the views of the lake and river.

We have now put the province of Quebec behind us and enter into New Brunswick.  The time changes, 4 p.m. becomes 5 p.m.  and we head to find an information centre and then our campground.
